Titiaan Keijzer will be appointed Professor of Corporate Law at Erasmus School of Law as of 1 December 2025. This chair, situated within the Department of Law & Business, provides the opportunity to conduct innovative and multidisciplinary research on the future of firms and organisations from a legal perspective.
Keijzer is an (inter)national expert in the field of corporate law. He studied at Erasmus School of Law and obtained his PhD (cum laude) in 2020 with his thesis Vote and Value, for which he also conducted research at Columbia University (New York) and the Max Planck Institute (Hamburg). After obtaining his doctorate, Keijzer worked as an attorney-at-law (advocaat), dealing with complex corporate law issues, including corporate litigation and M&A transactions. In 2023, he returned to Erasmus School of Law. Since then, he has also been Visiting Professor at the Università degli Studi di Torino (Turin) and, as of this year, Co-Chair of the Young Erasmus Academy. Keijzer is also affiliated with two leading Dutch legal journals.
What role do sustainability, digitalisation and internationalisation play?
Corporate law addresses the legal structures of firms and organisations and has experienced rapid developments in recent years. The international nature of the field, the increasing emphasis on digitalisation (including the use of AI) and the focus on sustainability are all causing major changes. As a result, numerous societal issues are becoming increasingly intertwined with corporate law. More than ever before, firms and organisations are expected to take responsibility for preventing harm to people and the environment, while at the same time they should strive to remain economically relevant.
This is precisely the intersection at which Keijzer operates. He focuses on the future of corporate law, thereby contributing to tomorrow's economy. In this regard, sustainability, digitalisation and an international orientation are key points of interest. However, many of today's societal challenges are so comprehensive that they cannot be analysed meaningfully from a single perspective. That is why Keijzer focuses on innovative, multidisciplinary research, incorporating comparative law, law and economics, and legal-empirical perspectives into his research.
Keijzer is excited about his appointment: “As a student in Rotterdam, I was quickly captivated by the discipline of corporate law. It is a highly dynamic field of research that faces major societal challenges. I am looking forward to collaborate with colleagues and students and contribute to creative, corporate law-based solutions for societal issues.’
Law in society
Keijzer’s innovative approach to corporate law fits seamlessly with the vision of Erasmus School of Law, which focuses on the development of law as it relates to economic actors and complex societal issues. This interplay between law, society and economics is reflected in the School motto: Where law meets business. The chair and research are also closely aligned with the National Sector Plan for Law and the National Sector Plan The influence of digitalisation on work, prosperity and entrepreneurship.
The Board of Erasmus School of Law congratulates Titiaan Keijzer on his appointment and wished him all the best with his activities.
