PILAR is a voluntary participatory body, representing all PhDs from Erasmus School of Law. PILAR represents you as an ESL PhD candidate by means of direct participation, evaluation, and involvement in the policymaking of the Erasmus (Graduate) School of Law.

Since 1987, PILAR’s aim has been to build a productive environment and to enhance the network of PhD candidates by organizing various social activities. Since more recently, PILAR has additionally been engaging in the representation of ESL PhD candidates within Erasmus School of Law and within Erasmus University and also in cooperating with Erasmus Graduate School of Law on joint professional initiatives.

What does PILAR do?

  • Representing ESL PhD candidates within Erasmus School of Law and within Erasmus University
  • Advising EGSL on PhD policy
  • Enhancing the visibility of ESL PhD candidates (among others via the PILAR LinkedIn page)
  • Cooperating with EGSL on joint initiatives
  • Organising several activities specifically designed for ESL PhD candidates, such as online events, panel discussions and workshops on PhD related challenges.
  • Organising the annual PILAR dinner
  • Organising other social and networking activities

PILAR is also represented in the EPAR (Erasmus PhD Association Rotterdam) which is the overarching organisation of all PhD candidates of Erasmus University. Besides this, PILAR also maintains close ties with various other organisations from other faculties and research groups within Erasmus University.

All ESL PhD researchers are automatically PILAR-members and will receive regular updates via e-mail. We also invite you to follow our LinkedIn page to get the latest news on our events and on what your fellow PhD candidates have been up to!
