Mission

ERRC

In the context of the new Strategy 2024, Erasmus University Rotterdam aims to strengthen its institutional profile on the basis of a set of values that link up with the example set by Desiderius Erasmus and that may help present-day academics enhance their positive societal impact.

Taking Erasmus as a role model in the development of values that students and staff at Erasmus University may share, ERRC aims to put the idea of Erasmian Values high on the agenda within EUR and to promote reflection on the contribution of our values in educational, research and societal initiatives relevant to both the university and the City of Rotterdam.

The New EUR Strategy 2024 (“Creating positive societal impact”) is subtitled “The Erasmian Way”. In line with this strategy, a set of values is currently being outlined as the foundation for “Being an Erasmian”. Erasmus is praised for the manner in which he combined expertise and meticulous scholarship with critical engagement, tolerance and independence. Being an Erasmian means being a world citizen, embracing societal engagement and an open, critical, mind-set. The Erasmus Centre is home to a series of activities especially aimed at promoting Erasmian Values both at the university level and in society at large, and aims to embed Erasmian Values more explicitly in the activities of students, employees and researchers at Erasmus University Rotterdam, and to inspire them in their studies and their work.
