We would like you to remind that ESPhil Research Lunch Meeting is taking place on Thursday 20 April. We're excited to announce that we're expecting key players from university management and unions to join us at our upcoming event, highlighting the importance of the topic. Your participation would be incredibly valuable and greatly appreciated. Don't miss this opportunity to engage with influential members of the community and make a meaningful contribution to the conversation!
Academic Freedom
Academic freedom is presently being debated in the context of a wider range of topics, including our university’s collaboration with the fossil fuel industry (FFI), corporate interests, and the recent dismissal of a female UHD at the university of Groningen researching academic social safety.
In our meeting, Constanze Binder will kick off the debate with a short argument as to why doing justice to academic freedom requires both cutting certain structural ties with the FFI, while not externally interfering in others. Nicholas Vrousalis will discuss the Groningen case in the light of academic freedom. Thereafter you are all invited to share your views, discuss how we should think of these issues and how to act on them within a university environment.
The ESPhil Research Lunch Meetings are ‘brown bag’ meetings, which is to say that you are kindly requested to bring your own if you wish to use the occasion to have your lunch hour as well.
