Double your Degree with Philosophy

Interviews
Stijn Voogt Doubled before background

In a time of rapid technological change and social complexity, the ability to think critically, question deeply, and communicate clearly is more valuable than ever. The Bachelor in Philosophy of a Specific Discipline at Erasmus School of Philosophy offers students the opportunity to pursue these skills through a highly flexible, second degree in philosophy—designed to complement any major at Erasmus University Rotterdam.

This programme allows students to enrich their primary field of study—whether economics, law, medicine, or the social sciences—with philosophical insight. It encourages them to reflect on the foundations of their discipline, sharpen their reasoning, and broaden their perspective.

On this page, you’ll find stories from students who chose to combine their main degree with philosophy. They share how this experience challenged their assumptions, deepened their academic journey, and, in many cases, gave their studies new meaning.

Philosophy pushes me beyond standard economic and legal frameworks, helping me to approach real-world problems with greater depth and clarity.

Philosophy gives you a broader understanding of the human experience. The ability to think critically, to structure arguments clearly, it’s super helpful for anyone doing any kind of academic study.

Studying philosophy didn’t just make me reflect on law, it made me reflect on studying. What it means to study, why I do it. That’s been more valuable than simply doubling a degree. It made all degrees I could ever get more worthwhile.

Combining philosophy with MISoC gave me tools to look at global systems not just analytically, but also morally and existentially.
Aditi Raujara portret
Philosophy helped me to see the bigger picture, it filled the gap between problems and solutions. It showed me that there are multiple ways to approach a challenge. It taught me not to go with the first answer, but to keep asking why.
