The title of the inaugural lecture is 'The Rise & Fall of Dutch Commitment to Development. What next?'

Koch will analyse why the Netherlands has dropped from being number one on the Commitment to Development Index twenty years ago, slipping to place 13 by 2023. What needs to be done to find the way forward again?

He will argue that a relaunch of Dutch international engagement is not only a moral necessity, but also in the country's own interest. In an increasingly interconnected world, a small, prosperous country like the Netherlands cannot afford to remain aloof.
