What goes on in the mysterious world behind the mostly closed doors of the Vatican remains a fascinating subject, especially as the doors are being closed again today.
A top cast of acting veterans led by Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, Isabella Rossellini and Ralph Fiennes deliberate and conspire in the marble lodgings and even the Sistine Chapel to elect the new Holy Father of the Roman Church when the current pope dies. An exciting and also certainly witty political thriller, based on the novel by Robert Harris.
Storyline
After the pope's death, cardinals from around the world cast their votes in the world's most secretive election: that of the new spiritual world leader. Cardinal Lawrence (Ralph Fiennes) must make sure everything goes smoothly, despite his own crisis of faith. When sky-high ambitions turn into scandals, he discovers that the late pope was far from saintly.
Conclave is directed by Edward Berger (All Quiet on the Western Front). Ralph Fiennes (The Menu, The Grand Budapest Hotel), Stanley Tucci (Spotlight, Supernova), John Lithgow (Killers of the Flower Moon, Bombshell) and Isabella Rossellini (La Chimera) play the lead roles.
Duration 120 minutes, Spoken Languages: English and/or English Subtitles
