New challenges in health, work, education, and well-being call for new solution. How to manage the increasing demand for care? What’s the impact of smartphone use on our work? To answer these kinds of questions, there is a growing need to obtain insights into individuals’ functioning in everyday life.
The Experience Sampling Method (ESM) allows researchers to track feelings, thoughts, and behaviors of participants throughout the day, which provides a new way of researching societal challenges. On November 14, we celebrate the growth of our expertise group, and the impact we can make together by sharing our knowledge of ESM research.
Need for dissemination of knowledge
ESM is a new and quite complex research method. Which only few scholars and applied fields have already been able to successfully embrace. Therefore, there is a need for dissemination of knowledge among researchers on acquiring and analyzing data and sharing expertise on using these methods to create and accelerate not only academic but also societal impact. 
This is why in 2021, Loes Keijsers took the initiative to start a group of researchers to share knowledge and expertise. Now this group has grown into an ESM expertise group of more than 70 researchers from Erasmus University Rotterdam, Erasmus MC and TU Delft.
