Below is a brief summary of the dissertation:

Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is a common condition in which fat accumulates in the liver. It frequently occurs in people with type 2 diabetes, obesity, and other metabolic disorders. MASLD can progress to liver scarring (fibrosis) and is also associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease.

This thesis investigated the occurrence and consequences of MASLD and liver fibrosis in different high-risk groups, including people with type 2 diabetes, obesity, and chronic inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis. In addition, the relationship between liver health and cardiovascular risk was studied, as well as the effects of lifestyle and medical interventions on liver-related outcomes.

The findings highlight the importance of recognizing liver disease in people with metabolic and inflammatory conditions. Early identification of individuals at increased risk may allow timely prevention and treatment strategies to reduce complications.

This thesis contributes to a better understanding of the complex relationship between liver disease, metabolic health, and chronic inflammation. The results may support improved clinical care by promoting a more integrated approach to identifying and managing patients with MASLD and related health risks.
