Brief summary on the aim of the doctoral thesis:
In this thesis I aimed to provide some answers to current uncertainties in contemporary percutaneous intervention. The first part of this thesis I investigated the diagnostic value of new technologies for better patient and lesion selections which might benefit from percutaneous intervention. When a decision for percutaneous treatment has been made the best available devices should be used. In the second part of this thesis, I investigated the outcome of new coronary devices which were designed to improve outcome of the procedure.
After implantation of any coronary device, the patient needs to be protected from adverse events. Potential strategies for antiplatelet therapy post PCI in different clinical settings were studied in the third part of the thesis. Proper endpoint selection is relevant for any clinical study. For the studies in part 2 and 3 classical adverse cardiovascular events were registered. In the fourth part, I studied the impact of currently neglected events on trial outcome and propose new recommendations for determining device success rates.
