Dissertation in short:

This thesis describes different kinds of studies with the purpose to extend and improve anti-cancer therapies and to improve outcomes in patients with advanced solid cancers. In Part I of this thesis, novel anticancer compounds were investigated in three phase 1 studies in patients with various cancer types, one study primarily focusing on patients with prostate cancer. In Part II prognostic factors in a patient population with urological cancers were studied and clinical implications of these factors are being discussed. In part III, studies investigating predictive biomarkers in urothelial cancer patients are presented .
