Below is a brief summary of the dissertation:

This thesis focused on studying the pathogenesis of zoonotic viral infections originating from bats, in their original host species. By examining the virus-original host interactions, I aimed to identify new insights for the virus-human interactions. I reasoned that if we understand how the original hosts deal with the virus infection differently, this can increase our understanding of the virus infection in the human hosts. Because zoonotic viruses so frequently arise from the mammalian Order of bats (Chiroptera), I focused in this thesis on the pathogenesis of zoonotic virus infections that have their origin in bats.
