Below is a brief summary of the dissertation:
Patients with pulmonary atresia, ventricular septal defect, and systemic-pulmonary collateral arteries are treated at Erasmus MC using a staged approach. The protocol used for this has been in place since 1989 and is evaluated in many areas in this thesis. Some patients benefit from the use of a Melbourne shunt. The percentage of final corrections is comparable to international literature. In addition, much research shows that the use of allografts in this patient group leads to acceptable survival with a good quality of life. Lifelong follow-up remains necessary to identify and treat late complications and abnormalities in a timely manner. New developments such as 3D VR are helpful in surgical planning.
