Below is a brief summary of the dissertation:
How firms, workers, and households manage information determines how much value they capture. This dissertation studies information and value creation at three stages: production, transmission, and interpretation.
The first chapter shows that U.S. public firms generated private value and spillovers from open-source software on GitHub between 2015 and 2023. The second chapter shows that when AI coding tools arrived, junior developers shifted effort from routine coding, whose signal AI had diluted, toward creative projects that better reveal skill. The third chapter shows that Clinton's 2016 campaign rallies cut perceived economic uncertainty and raised loan applications through the precautionary savings machanism, while Trump's rallies had no effect.
