Below is a brief summary of the dissertation:

This thesis examines the behavioral and neural correlates of multidimensional prosocial behavior during adolescence. Prosocial behavior is all voluntary behavior intended to benefit others. The first aim of this thesis is to examine the developmental trajectories and underlying mechanisms of adolescents’ prosocial behavior to not only close others (e.g., friends and family) but also more distant societal targets (e.g., communities and charities). The second aim of this thesis is to examine the advantages of adolescents’ prosocial actions on their wellbeing during challenging times, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. To this end, I test whether prosocial behavior is a resiliency-promoting factor during the pandemic.
