On Tuesday, 17 December 2019, in the presence of relatives, former colleagues and current staff members of Erasmus School of Economics, Mayor of Rotterdam Ahmed Aboutaleb will be revealing a bronze statue of Jan Tinbergen.

This event celebrates the man who is considered to be the most influential economist of our School and the Netherlands.

About Jan Tinbergen

Jan Tinbergen was a professor in Rotterdam from 1933 until 1974 at the Netherlands School of Commerce and Netherlands School of Economics, the predecessors of Erasmus School of Economics and Erasmus University Rotterdam. One of the highlights of Tinbergen’s career is the conferral of the Nobel Prize for Economics. Together with the Norwegian Ragnar Frisch, he was the first to receive the prize in 1969 in Stockholm.

About sculptor Lia Krol

The statue of Jan Tinbergen is produced by sculptor Lia Krol. She studied at the Royal Academy of Art and Design in 's Hertogenbosch. In the last few years, she has fully committed herself to the production of statues and memorials, usually made of bronze.
