Rotterdam Coastal Races

Student rows at sea during a coastal race.

Skadi Rotterdam, together with KRZV De Maas, will organise the first edition of the Rotterdam Coastal Races on Saturday 16 September 2023. In previous years, this race was also known as the Rotterdam Harbour Races, held during the World Harbour Days. We will continue with this concept, but with a new twist. This year, it will take place at a different location, Hoek van Holland to be exact. This will make it a real coastal rowing race!

Rowing at Sea

Coastal rowing is a fairly new and emerging sport at national and international level. Coastal rowing boats are larger than traditional rowing boats and are made to face big waves, such as the surf of the North Sea at Hoek van Holland. The race involves a course of about 5 kilometres across the sea, with the start on the beach. The Rotterdam Coastal Races is one of the three largest regattas in Europe. In addition, the race is part of the national KNRB Coastal rankings.

The boats in the surf can make quite a spectacle, so be sure to come and have a look on 16 September at the Hoekse Watersportvereniging.
