The Rotterdam Student Orchestra paints the scenic Rhineland with Schumann, soprano Tinka Pypker sings of love with Berlioz, and a piece of the young composer Amba Klapwijk has its world premiere. What better way to start the summer?

With its summer concert the RSO looks back and forward with three old friends:
In 2015 the orchestra performed parts of Schumann’s third symphony. This time the RSO plays all movements, and goes along with Schumann and his wife for a trip through the scenery of the Rhineland.

For the second music piece of the evening the orchestra works together with old member Tinka Pypker. Soprano Tinka studies at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. During this summer concert she sings of love and sultry summer nights. Berlioz’s Nuits d’été consists of six songs about all faces of love: from young, nascent love, then broken hearts, to renewed love and new beginnings.

Also an old member of the RSO is the third old friend. Amba Klapwijk studies Composition at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. Especially for this summer concert, Amba wrote a composition: five miniatures for orchestra. The piece has never been performed before. The RSO does the honour giving the piece its world premiere but the honour is yours to witness this!

Schumann – third symphony
