Who will be chosen as Student of the Year? Watch and vote during this live show filled with music, look-backs, and other acts!

For the third time, Studium Generale and EM are organising the Student of the Year award, following two successful editions in 2022 and 2023. Students who stand out for their commitment to their fellow students and/or society can be nominated by the EUR community but also by stakeholders in the city. What matters is the societal impact of their efforts and not their study results.

Nominees

The finalists for the Student of the Year election have been announced! In no particular order, these are the finalists for Student of the Year: Mahika Bisht Mohanan, Selda Sahin, Yasmine Haggui, Mohammed Shamallakh and a pair of joint nominees: Emma Verheggen and Fleur Wilbrink. Interviews with the nominees will be posted on the website of Erasmus Magazine

All of the finalists have different study programmes, backgrounds and stories. What they have in common is that they are selfless and socially engaged. They are also extremely modest! Each of them reacted with surprise to the news of their nomination and selection as finalists.

The Jury

The jury this year comprises:

  • Annelien Bredenoord, Rector Magnificus (chair of the jury);
  • Hassnae Boubrik, winner of Student of the Year 2023;
  • Peggy Wijntuin, former member of the municipal council and advisor on projects about the Netherlands’ slavery past;
  • Robert Dur, professor at the Erasmus School of Economics;
  • Veerle Petersen, President of Eurekaweek 2023;
  • Laurens Wielaard, Erasmus Sport and EUR lustrum committee.

Award show

The award show on 29 May 2024 celebrates the social commitment of all students in a festive and musical programme that also looks back at special moments of the past academic year in an attractively decorated Pavilion.

The winner is ultimately determined by a combination of the jury's verdict, online voting (starts 13 May)in the weeks leading up to the show and the votes cast by those present at the award show.

The award consists of a cash prize as well as a personal meeting with rector Annelien Bredenoord to talk about civic engagement in student life.

All this will be hosted by David Boeren (SG) and Tessa Hofland (EM). Desiderius Erasmus will present the award. All this will be hosted by David Boeren (SG) and Tessa Hofland (EM). Desiderius Erasmus will come to present the award.
After the show we will raise the glass to the winner!
