Erasmus Gallery from November 3, 2016 until December 31, 2016.

Opening hours: Mon-Fri 9:00-18:00

Erik Odijk (1959) makes drawings on nature. He mediates between the sublime (the biggest, most coarse, untidy) and fine beauty (small, smooth, soft and rich). During trips and hikes in nature he is always looking for inspiring places that he captures on camera. Making the picture is as accurate as the drawing itself and is an essential part of his work. The photograph increasingly takes up an autonomous place in his work. After selection of his footage he translates these to drawings, in both large and small sizes, in his studio or in situ.

Odijk is known for his large scale works in which fragments of nature are always the most important elements. Works in which your eyes can wander and look with astonishment at what he achieved with mostly black and white drawing materials. His work allows the audience to see nature looking just at that audience with contempt and without respect. That's not God who looks at us through the drawings of Erik Odijk but Nature.

Since 2014 Odijk is working on and with the landscape and with rock sculpture installations. The medium of film is used since 2014 to show the walk and the discovery as a phenomenon.
