Imagine a world in which economic growth is no longer paramount and in which the prosperity of the vast majority of people remains intact. People are happier, they have less stress and more free time. An impossible task, it seems. What does an economy that is not driven by profit and efficiency look like? Is that the end of capitalism, or can we still buy those New Balance shoes and have our groceries delivered to our doorstep?

In Is there life after growth? Postgrowth expert Paul Schenderling provides insight into what a country can look like in which not growth but our well-being is the central measure. He provides guidance on how this can be done in the short term, and in a feasible and affordable way. What would the Netherlands look like in 2040? How do we organize our healthcare system, for example? And should we all work less?
Paul Schenderling is an economist, researcher and, among other things, founder of Postgroei Nederland, a think tank of experts from various fields and political directions with the goal of making the Netherlands a little happier. He wrote the book Er is leven na de groei (There is life after the growth, 2022).
This event is organized by Studium Generale and Student Wellbeing Week.
