HPC access

For most researchers the hardware provided by the EUR is sufficient. However, if you need more memory than available on your computer or need to simultaneously run multiple tasks on a large dataset you can apply for High Performance Computing (HPC).

SURF offers the following services:

If you need to decide which infrastructure would be most suitable for your line of research check this page: https://www.surf.nl/en/which-compute-service-for-which-research-question

Costs

These services are paid for by the EUR IT department. Researchers that would require a substantial amount of our resources are encouraged to apply for access granted by SURF (and paid for by NWO). More info can be found here: https://www.surf.nl/en/research-ict/apply-for-access-to-compute-services

How to apply

If you need LISA or Snellius, fill in the User request form and sent it to edsc@eur.nl for approval. Please specify the service you need, a budget (usually we start with 10.000). In most cases the storage provided should be enough, so there's no need to apply for additional storage.

If you need Research Cloud, first have a look at this info: https://servicedesk.surf.nl/wiki/display/WIKI/How+to+get+on+board

In short:

  • Create an SRAM account
  • Sent an e-mail to edsc@eur.nl with your SRAM username and the name of your first CO
  • Once you are a member of this CO, log in to the Research Cloud portal to request a wallet
  • Create your first workspace
