The University Library runs practical workshops to support students, researchers and faculty members at Erasmus University in their research and teaching.
You can choose from the following options:
- Regular workshops: which cover set topics and are held several times a year.
- Customized workshops: which are tailored to your degree programme, course or research question.
Regular workshops
In the RefWorks workshop, you will learn how to easily save, manage, export, and share references with others. You will also learn how to import references, organize your sources into folders, create a standalone reference list, and cite sources in a Word document.

In this monthly workshop, you will learn how to create and use an ORCID iD to to enhance the discoverability of your research outputs. You will also learn how to link your ORCID record to your publications and other research activities, making your work more recognisable and easier to find.

The EDSC (Erasmus Data Service Center) offers hands-on workshops to help students and researchers get the most out of our financial databases. Whether you’re new to tools such as LSEG Workspace, WRDS, or Morningstar, or you want to refine your data extraction and analysis skills, these workshops provide practical guidance and step-by-step demonstrations.

Customized workshops
Are you a lecturer looking to improve your students' information literacy? You can request a workshop that is tailored to your group's needs in terms of timing, level and topics.
Topics could include conducting a literature review, the phases of the search process and search techniques, as well as managing data and tracking research impact.
Researchers and students can also request a workshop for their own group.
Practical information
Who is it for: third-year bachelor’s students, master’s students, and PhD students.
Location: on-site or at the University Library.
Duration: 2-3 hours.

In addition to our regular workshops, you can request a customized one-hour EDSC (Erasmus Data Service Centre) workshop for a group, if you want a deeper dive into a specific topic or guidance across multiple databases.
To schedule a session, please send an email with the following information:
- The topic(s) and/or database(s) you want to cover.
- The number of participants (minimum of 6).
- Preferred date and time.
- Academic level (Bachelor’s or Master’s).
Together, we’ll create a session tailored to your needs.

The “Researcher Identifiers & Profiles” workshop helps researchers to improve their online visibility and discoverability by using various researcher profiles, such as Google Scholar, Web of Science ResearcherID, and Scopus Author Identifier.

The Future Library Lab (FLL) offers workshops in Python programming for beginners and advanced learners. During the sessions, you will learn the basics of Python through practical examples and applications relevant to research.

The call for communicating science to a lay audience remains to be a hot topic. Unfortunately, there is typically little to no formal training available to help students improve their communication skills with a non-academic audience.
In this interactive workshop, participants will explore the nature of different strategies in disseminating their research to a lay audience.

E-learning Information and Academic skills
Short e-learning modules teach students and researchers how to use scholarly information and data effectively, responsibly and critically.
The modules combine text, exercises and videos, which can be worked through separately. The topics follow the research cycle and can be consulted anywhere, anytime.
Lecturers can incorporate the modules into their Canvas courses or use them in your teaching to help students improve their information skills.
