Celebrating all kinds of dance all over the world – that’s the goal of the International Dance Day. On Saturday 29 April we honour dance as an important part of human culture.

Everywhere in the world, people attend dance festivals. We dance with our friends. We watch dance competitions on television. ‘For vividly illustrating cultural diversity there is no better means than dance’: the words of the President of the International Dance Council, a UNESCO partner. Dance is a central part of culture, it brings different kinds of people together.

Rotterdam’s also crazy about dance. On Saturday, dancers will come together in two locations: Kruisplein and Wijkpark het Oude Westen. Dance schools, groups, and solo dancers will present, demonstrate, and give free workshops to the audience.

Dancing with the Professors

A few years ago, eleven EUR scientists decided to leave the classroom for a minute and get on the dancefloor for the event ‘Dancing with the Professors’. Complete with judges – even a judge from the popular TV show So You Think You Can Dance. More about the event and the participating professors in this issue of Erasmus Magazine.
