Close to 100% Open Access achieved at EUR and EMC

In 2024, EUR and Erasmus MC (EMC) have achieved a longstanding goal of close to 100% Open Access. What’s next?

EUR and EMC have achieved the goal of above 99% Open Access in 2024. The open access share saw a huge increase from 82,9% in 2023 to 99,6% in 2024.

This is due in large part to the full implementation of the Open Access Regulation (OAR) at EMC. The EMC open access share has grown from 79% in 2023 to 99,7% in 2024. The open access share of EUR (excluding EMC) has also grown from 98% in 2023 to over 99% in 2024.

What’s next for open access at the library?

In addition to expanding the green open access workflows to Erasmus MC and older publications, the University Library aims to broaden its support for open access. Alongside the successful hybrid and green open access routes, alternative strategies are being explored to promote a more diverse and sustainable publication culture. Moving forward, we aim to strengthen Diamond open access publishing at EUR via our Diamond Open Access Fund and our leading role in the national Diamond open access project in our endeavour to create a future-proof open access landscape. Moreover, we are also helping researchers getting their books published open access via our Open Access Book Fund
