Congratulations to Enrico Pennings on his 25 years of employment at Erasmus School of Economics

Enrico Pennings Umbra Erasmi

On 23 February 2022, Rector Magnificus Professor Annelien Bredenoord has presented the Umbra Erasmi medal to Professor Enrico Pennings for his 25 years of employment at Erasmus School of Economics.

According to Dean Patrick Groenen, Enrico Pennings is a highly valued researcher, lecturer and colleague: 'In the 25 years of his employment, Professor Pennings has contributed greatly to the activities of the Applied Economics Department and the school in general with his enthusiasm, drive and commitment. He is one of our strong researchers, as demonstrated by his many publications. He has published on (social) entrepreneurship, market structure, start-ups and R&D. In addition, Pennings has made an important contribution to education, most recently through the master’s specialisation Strategy Economics. His lectures are highly appreciated by the students.'

Enrico Pennings has been Vice Dean and Director of Research at Erasmus School of Economics since April 2018. Before that, he was Director of the Applied Economics Department for more than 5 years. He has been a fellow of the Tinbergen Institute since 2005 and a member of the Erasmus Research Institute of Management) since 2006. He is also Associate Director of the latter organisation.

About the Umbra Erasmi

The medal, which was introduced by the Executive Board of Erasmus University Rotterdam in 1988, is granted as a token of appreciation and/or recognition to persons who are 25 years in the service. On the back of this medal is the text UMBRA ERASMI ERASMUS UNIVERSITEIT ROTTERDAM. Erasmus used the words "Shadow of Erasmus" in 1520 referring to his portrait medal.
