Professor J.E.J. (Corien) Prins was appointed chairman of the Supervisory Board of Erasmus University Rotterdam by Minister Ingrid van Engelshoven (Education and Science) with effect from 1 May 2018. She is the successor of H.N.J. (Hans) Smits, whose term expired on that date. Prins was already a member of the Supervisory Board.
Prins has been a member of the Supervisory Board of Erasmus University since 2012. In 2016 she was reappointed, until 1 June 2020.
Professor Prins (1961) has been chairman of The Netherlands Scientific Council for Government Policy (WRR) since 1 April 2017. She is also a professor of Law and Computerization at the Tilburg Law School of Tilburg University. Prins was Dean of this faculty until 1 April 2017.
Prins studied Slavonic Language and Literature (1980-1984) at the University of Leiden (candidate exam) and Law (1983-1986) at the same university (doctoral exam). She graduated in 1991. She has been a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) since 2009.
