This years’ highest ranked scholar of Erasmus School of Economics in the 2020 ESB Top 40 Economists list is Professor Peter Wakker with a 6th place. The list is published yearly by ESB (Economisch Statistische Berichten/Economic Statistical Reports).

In total, 11 Rotterdam based scholars have made it to the list, 7 of whom are affiliated with Erasmus School of Economics. Peter Wakker is followed by his colleagues Patrick Verwijmeren (7th), Aurélien Baillon (11th), Han Bleichrodt (17th), Jan van Ours (20th), Olivier Marie (26th) and Sjoerd van Bekkum (37th).

Total impact of Dutch economists increases by almost seven percent

The decrease in the number of articles, which was the case last year, did not persevere. Dutch economists are publishing more articles, in total 5,280, comparable with the level of 2013-2017. The impact of publications is still increasing. The article influence score (AIS) of the average Dutch economic publication rose by almost five percent from 0.788 to 0.830. Because of this increase in impact, the total impact - number of articles times score per article - of Dutch economists has increased by almost seven percent, compared to last year. The publication pattern in the individual top 40 is developing differently from the broader list of institutions. The number of articles published in the top continues to decline, from 470 in 2018 through 459 in 2019 to 484 this year, while the impact per article steadily is increasing (from 1.32 via 1.38 to 1.50 now).

The highest ranked faculty member of Erasmus University Rotterdam is Professor Pursey Heugens of Rotterdam School of Management with a 4th place. See attached the ESB Top 40 article and a closely related article, in which all the article abstracts in the ranking are mapped to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), to assess their SDG ratios.
