Today is Purple Friday across The Netherlands, a day to focus on our LGBTI+ members of our communities; and reiterate fundamental principles that no one should fear rejection or prejudice based on who they are or who they love.
We support everyone in our community by always taking a stand against harassment and discrimination. And that is in ensuring that all of us feel safe and secure in our institution. It means having open conversations about LGBTQ and about topics focused on inclusion; creating a safe network where people of all sexual expressions and orientations can speak to each other about their experiences without fear or judgement.
We do this via several policies that aim at inclusion, from paying greater attention to our vacancy texts, using of respectful language to making inclusive education policies in our educational programmes. In February, we will host an informal round table conversation with students and staff on these topics and more, to see where we can make additional improvements.
Purple Friday may be a single day, but it reminds us that through inclusion, every day, we better our community at EUR.
