With sadness the Executive Board of Erasmus University Rotterdam has learned from the death of Dr. Richard von Weizsäcker, President of the Federal Republic of Germany from 1984 to 1994 and an honorary doctor of the university.
Erasmus University awarded an honorary doctorate to Dr. Richard von Weizsäcker in 1991 for his constructive contributions to public philosophical, historical and scientific discussions. This happened during the 78th dies natalis, with Queen Beatrix attending. The honorary doctorate was conferred on the recommendation of the Faculty of History and Arts.
