Keynote Van der Vleuten on programmatic assessment: ‘Grades are the poorest form of feedback’

Cees van der Vleuten

With new forms of impact-driven education come new methods of assessment. During prior meetings of our community, we discussed how we can best assess our impact education. We invited prof. dr. Cees van der Vleuten to host a keynote during our webinar on programmatic assessment; how to implement new forms of assessment in a course or curriculum.

Cees, scientific director of the School of Health Professions Education at Maastricht University, has been working on the concept of programmatic assessment for years. Based upon his latest publication 'Programmatisch toetsen: voorbeelden en ervaringen uit de praktijk' (2020), he shared a variety of examples and highlights from his research. How do we assess the development of skills; does it suffice to evaluate an end report; what to do with peer- and stakeholder input; are we allowed to use evaluations of stakeholders in our assessment; how should we deal with group work and the individual component in assessments?
