Marc van Berkel will present a paper at the International Conference at the International Research Association for History and Social Sciences Education / Association Internationale de Recherche en Didactique de l'Histoire et des Sciences Sociales on Holocaust Representations in Dutch History Textbooks 1960-2010. Van Berkel seeks to describe representation of the Holocaust in history textbooks in the Netherlands between 1960 and 2010 in relation to developments in historical scholarship and collective memory. A part from the chronological analysis of Holocaust representation in textbooks between 1960 and 2010, he shall analyze and compare the two most dominant of the Holocaust representations in history textbooks in secondary education: perpetrator and victim narratives.
