Researcher mr Meriëlle de Zwart wins the VBR Publication Prize 2024. She receives the prize for her article "Does Deliveroo provide entrepreneurship", published in Ars Aequi (2024, p. 9-19). The award was presented at the spring meeting of the Dutch Civil Law Association (VBR).
Entrepreneurship in the platform economy
In her award-winning article, De Zwart examines the legal position of platform workers at companies such as Deliveroo. In doing so, she touches on current questions about labour relations, self-employment and entrepreneurship in the digital economy. De Zwart is attached to the SSH-Breed Sector Plan, where she focuses on the theme "Digitalisation and Platformisation of Work Processes and Products". The award was presented by jury member mr S.Y.Th. Meijer.
Important contribution to civil law
The VBR Publication Prize was established in 2010 to mark the 25th anniversary of the association. Since then, the prize has been awarded annually to the author of the academic article that makes the most relevant and innovative contribution to the knowledge and improvement of civil law in a broad sense. An expert jury makes a selection from all the publications submitted for the year in question.
