NWO and CLICK.nl decided to give a KIEM grant to ERMeCC researchers Julia Kneer (main applicant) and Jeroen Jansz (co-applicant). In close collaboration with the Rotterdam game developer Ranj they will translate the framework of a health-related game called fogland into paper prototyping.

The idea of the fogland game is built upon the fact that no smoker starts or keeps on smoking in order to damage health. Therefore, fogland addresses other needs that are fulfilled by smoking, in particular stress reduction and social needs. fogland will playfully confront smokers with their needs and habits and offer them different coping strategies as a means to help them to quit smoking. The game’s framework builds upon previous research regarding the effectiveness of games in health communication and the effectiveness of smoking interventions.
