Mary Pieterse-Bloem, Professor of Financial Markets at Erasmus School of Economics, was a guest on BNR Nieuwsradio's investor panel, where the focus this time was mainly on the AEX, which reached a new record high. During the panel, Pieterse-Bloem shared her view on the current investment environment, which is remarkably positive.
According to Pieterse-Bloem, she and her team remain optimistic about the outlook for the financial markets. ‘We are in a favourable investment environment,’ she explained. She bases this optimism on several factors.
Firstly, she points to moderate economic growth, which means that there appears to be no threat of recession. Secondly, although there is inflation, she believes it remains manageable. Monetary policy is also playing a positive role: central banks still have room to lower interest rates, which can continue to support the economy.
Although uncertainties always remain, for example regarding trade barriers and tariffs, these currently appear to have a limited impact. Moreover, corporate earnings remain strong overall, which further strengthens confidence in the stock market.
With this combination of stable growth, manageable inflation and solid corporate results, the investment climate looks set to remain favourable for the time being. According to Pieterse-Bloem, it is thus no surprise that the AEX is reaching new heights.
