Summer school Erasmus University good predictor of study success and remains as popular as ever

Pre Academic Program

The successful programme of Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) that gives students a flying start is offered bilingually and remains as popular as ever. Even now that the programme is partly online.

"For many students, the transition from secondary education to higher education is a big step. Starting a study in times of corona is challenging, and moreover, students are expected to be increasingly independent and take their own initiative. With this programme, we can give prospective students the right guidance at the start of their studies," says Rector Magnificus Frank van der Duijn Schouten.

Connection with the university

More than 750 first-year bachelor students who are preparing themselves optimally for their studies are participating the Pre Academic Programme (PAP), which has been offered since 2013. Participants in this programme achieve a higher average grade for their first exams and have a greater chance of successfully completing the first year of study because the communication with fellow students and lecturers is better and students feel more connected to the university.

PAP unique in the Netherlands

The programme goes beyond getting to know each other and is unique in the Netherlands in this size. In just a few weeks, students follow intensive workshops and lectures, digitally and on campus. They learn how to use their own talents in the best possible way in order to study successfully, thus preparing themselves for their professional future. There is also a lot of attention for getting to know fellow students and for 'feeling at home' at the university. Since the corona pandemic, personal contact is very difficult, making a good bond with the university, fellow students and teachers all the more important. The programme has already started and the first sessions have been evaluated by the participants with scores between 8 and 9.

More information

The programme started this week and will run until 13 August. In the week of 23-27 August, a catch-up programme will be organised for students who were unable to attend the regular programme. Interested parties can register until 16 August via this link.
