Biography
I am a PhD researcher with interests in international trade, export diversification, regional economic integration, and structural transformation, particularly in African economies. I also conduct research on the links between economic development, climate change, and environmental sustainability.
My current PhD research at the International Institute of Social Studies, Erasmus University Rotterdam, examines export diversification and regional economic integration from the perspective of structural transformation in Africa. I am particularly interested in why many African economies remain concentrated in a narrow range of exports, how participation in regional and global markets can support productive transformation, and how regional integration influences trade and development.
My interest in regional integration also extends to applied policy research. Through the project “Supporting Somalia on the Implementation of the EAC Integration Roadmap,” supported by the GIZ in Somalia, I contributed to research on Somalia’s integration into the East African Community and the opportunities and adjustment challenges associated with deeper regional economic integration.
A complementary area of my research examines the relationship between economic development and environmental change. My work in this area covers climate change, environmental sustainability, food security, and renewable energy, with particular attention to developing economies. Across these areas, I primarily use applied econometric and quantitative methods to investigate policy-relevant development questions. I currently contribute to the Renewable Energy Advancement for Inclusive Development (READ) Project, an Erasmus+ initiative focused on renewable energy and development in sub-Saharan Africa.
My work has appeared in peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Cleaner Production, Development Studies Research, Environmental Science and Pollution Research, Scientific Reports, Cogent Economics & Finance, Research in Globalization, Frontiers in Environmental Science, Discover Sustainability, and Technological and Economic Development of Economy.
