Biography
Dr. Apoorva Nanjangud is a lecturer in the Department of Arts and Culture Studies at the Erasmus University Rotterdam. She currently supervises BA and MA thesis at the ESHCC. Her PhD project was a part of the ERC-funded project ‘Worlds of Imagination’ headed and supervised by Prof. Stijn Reijnders that studied the phenomenon of media tourism with a non-western perspective. Her sub-project analysesd film tourism in the context of India. Bearing a qualitative, empirical approach, her research understood the phenomenon of Bollywood Tourism, by laying focus on the transmedia nature of the film industry. In doing so, Films, filmi-songs, and the Bollywood theme park was examined in relation to their influences in shaping tourist experience. Apoorva holds a Research Master (Distinction) in Communication Studies, from University of Pune, India. She also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Media, Ramnarain Ruia College, Mumbai University. Her research interests include media representation, media tourism, effect/audience studies, transnational mobilties, Media cultures, popular communication. Apoorva's work has been previously published in journals such as European Journal of Cultural Studies, Current Issues in Tourism, Tourist Studies and South Asian Popular Culture. She has also organized workshops and participated in reputed international conferences of relevance.
