Biography

Evert de Witte is Chief Advisor on Sustainable Agriculture & Inclusive growth, specialised in project design, formulation, implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) of Climate Smart Agriculture and Sustainable Food Systems policy, projects and programmes.

He has continued his PhD in Sustainable Agriculture and Inclusive Growth, and has nearly 20 years of certified professional working experiences in the area of Sustainable Agriculture, Food Systems, and climate change adaptation in East and Southern Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia.

His personal motivation is driven by comparing and improving results and impact of Sustainable Agriculture & Inclusive Growth projects and programmes with economic, social and environmental benefits, and based on evidence, contribute to renewed policy, programmes and partnership configurations, involving the Private Sector, in view of improved livelihoods and eco-system centered, market driven sustainable development, accordingly.

As such, he has been promoting the adoption organic farming practices, through the provision of climate resilient affordable seeds, organic fertilizer (for soil preservation), and the facilitation of access to credit and new markets for certified safe and organic produce, as well as through collaboration with the feed and food industry, on a shift towards plant-based proteins, as inputs for animal feed and food, with a smaller carbon footprint, towards climate objectives and the SDG review by 2030.

Evert de Witte is currently leading Sustainable Agriculture and Trade programmes in Southeast Asia, aiming to facilitate market-driven livelihoods support to smallholder farmers and advising the UN on making food systems more sustainable, identifying actionable interventions, within the three (Economic, Social and Environmental) dimensions of Private Sector-driven Sustainable Agriculture & Inclusive Growth.

All of his above extensive experiences, sharpened by his PhD research, aim to facilitate the uptake of relevant findings and lessons learned, and to contribute to the targeted design, development, implementation and measurement of the impact of actionable sustainability interventions, implemented through newly re-configured partnerships (including the industry, financial institutions/donors, development partners and policy makers) in view of meeting market-driven sustainable agriculture and three-dimensional Inclusive Growth objectives.
