Biography
Jana Retkowsky is Assistant Professor at the Department of Technology and Operations Management (Innovation Management section) at the Rotterdam School of Management (RSM), Erasmus University. Her research lies at the intersection of AI and work. She examines how AI transforms work and organizations, shedding light on how both are evolving.
Her projects explore topics such as Generative AI (GenAI) in knowledge and creative work, human–AI collaboration, algorithmic management, and the adoption of AI in organizations. She also examines the lived experiences of workers in the gig economy, such as Uber riders. Jana’s research has been published in international journals, including the Journal of Vocational Behavior and Business Horizons. She regularly presents her ongoing research at international conferences, such as the Academy of Management Conference.
She is a qualitative researcher who loves being at organizations to learn directly from workers and managers in the field. Passionate about qualitative approaches and engaged scholarship, on her PhD project she also founded a lab where leaders in the field could exchange ideas and work on a desireable future. Before joining RSM, she worked as an AI advisor for half a year, translating her research insights into practice, and she previously did a postdoc at KIN, Center for Digital Innovation at the Vrije Universiteit (VU) Amsterdam.
