prof.dr.ir. CTB (Kees) Ahaus

Biography

Kees Ahaus is a full professor in Health Services Management & Organisation (HSMO) and head of the HSMO department at the Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management (ESHPM), Erasmus University Rotterdam. He also serves as academic director of the Master of Health Business Administration (MHBA, Erasmus Centrum voor Zorgbestuur).

He studied Industrial Engineering at the Eindhoven University of Technology and obtained his PhD in Economics and Business from the University of Groningen in 1994. His career includes a long tenure at TNO, where he held several leadership positions.

Before joining ESHPM in 2019, Ahaus was professor of Healthcare Management at the University of Groningen, Faculty Economics and Business (2004-2019). There, he was director of  Healthwise, coordinated the Master’s program Supply Chain Management, and played a key role in developing the MSc in Business Administration with a focus on healthcare.

His research focuses on value-based healthcare, quality improvement, integrated care, lean management, healthcare operations and healthcare financing. His academic output includes over 90 international peer-reviewed publications and 10 books, and he has supervised 20 PhD students who successfully completed their projects, some of them received academic awards.

As a teacher, Ahaus contributes to both undergraduate and graduate programs. At ESHPM, he teaches courses on Quality of Care and Value-Based Services. In recognition of his contributions to quality management, he received the NNK award in 2019.
