Biography
Sacha Kapoor is Associate Professor of Economics in the Department of Economics at Erasmus School of Economics and a research fellow of the Tinbergen Institute. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Toronto and was a postdoctoral scholar at the University of Chicago. His research is in applied microeconomics, with interests in labour economics, education economics, behavioural economics and political economy. His work centres on causal inference, using regression discontinuity, difference-in-differences and instrumental variables designs, often in combination, to answer questions about how people learn, work and make decisions. Recent projects examine whether teachers or algorithms better predict student outcomes, discrimination in firing, the returns to internal migration, and loss aversion among firms. His work has been published in, among others, the American Political Science Review, American Economic Journal: Economic Policy, International Economic Review, Journal of Applied Econometrics and Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization. He teaches applied econometrics, data analytics and the economics of artificial intelligence, and holds an AI Teaching Fellowship focused on course development.
