Profile
Yannis Kerkemezos is a PhD candidate at the Erasmus School of Economics. His research focuses on the competitive conduct of firms in concentrated markets and their strategic reactions to changes in market structure (e.g. due to firm entry, exit or a merger). In particular, he studies sources of firm market power and anti-competitive practices that firms may deploy to maintain or expand their market dominance (e.g. collusion, entry deterrence, predation). An important element in this research is to analyse how the nature of a competitive threat (e.g. the type of competitor or timing of the interaction) affects the strategies employed by market incumbents. The goal is to better understand firm interactions and their corresponding effect on market competition. This is done in an empirical setting by using data from the airline industry with the main focus on strategic firm decisions on pricing and capacity.
