Introduction

The research landscape is evolving rapidly. As research becomes increasingly complex, the need for well-connected, accessible and effective research support continues to grow.

At Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management (ESHPM), we continuously invest in the development of our research support environment, helping researchers easily access the expertise and support they need throughout the research lifecycle.

To support this ambition, ESHPM is creating a new position within its Research Policy & Support Team. As Coordinator Research Support, you will contribute to the ongoing development of research support by connecting researchers and research support professional, improving processes, strengthening collaboration and translating strategic ambitions into practical solutions.

Job description

In this position, you play a central role in the further development of ESHPM’s research support environment. Working closely with researchers within ESHPM and specialist research support colleagues across Erasmus University Rotterdam, you help strengthen the way research support is organised and delivered. Your work focuses on four interconnected areas:

Connecting researchers and expertise

You strengthen the connection between researchers and specialist research support professionals, ensuring researchers can easily access the expertise they need and translating experiences and feedback into improvements. You will:

  • act as a first point of contact for researchers with questions about research support and connect them to the appropriate expertise;
  • strengthen collaboration and knowledge exchange between researchers and research support professionals.

Strengthening research support

You contribute to the ongoing improvement of research support by developing processes, services and information that better support researchers. You will:

  • improve the accessibility, transparency and consistency of research support processes;
  • develop and maintain the ESHPM Research Support Hub and coordinate ESHPM content within the EUR Research Support Portal;
  • translate experiences and feedback from researchers and support professionals into improvements in research support;
  • translate improvement opportunities into practical initiatives and support their implementation.

Project coordination

You coordinate projects and initiatives that contribute to the further development of research support within ESHPM. You will:

  • coordinate improvement and implementation projects;
  • coordinate the research component of the onboarding programme for new researchers;
  • organise training sessions in consultation with relevant stakeholders to support the further professionalisation of research

Policy development & implementation

Working closely with the Head of Research Policy & Support, you contribute to the continuous development of research support throughout the full policy cycle. You will:

  • contribute to policy development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation;
  • translate university-wide developments into solutions that fit ESHPM while bringing ESHPM experiences into university-wide developments;
  • prepare policy proposals, implementation plans and evaluations to support decision-making.

As part of a collaborative team, you also contribute to shared operational activities where needed.

Together, these activities contribute to a research support environment that enables researchers to focus on excellent research, engagement and creating impact.

As this is a newly created position, there is room to further shape specific areas of the role based on your expertise, experience and interests as well as input and feedback from researchers and research support professionals, while the core responsibilities remain clearly defined. Depending on the appointment size (0.6 - 1.0 FTE), there is flexibility in how these areas of emphasis are balanced.

Job requirements

We are looking for a proactive and collaborative professional who enjoys improving the way research support is organised and delivered. You enjoy bringing together people, expertise and ideas, and feel comfortable working in a dynamic academic environment where collaboration and initiative are key.

You are someone who:

  • builds strong relationships and enjoys working with researchers and professional services staff;
  • takes ownership and turns ideas into practical solutions;
  • combines analytical thinking with a pragmatic, solution-oriented approach;
  • is able to build support and coordinate improvements across teams and organisational boundaries;
  • communicates confidently with stakeholders at different organisational levels;
  • enjoys working in an international and multidisciplinary environment;
  • contributes to an open, collaborative and inclusive team culture.

In addition, you bring:

  • preferably a Master's degree, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience;
  • experience in project coordination, process improvement and/or policy development;
  • experience working within a university, university medical centre or another research-intensive organisation;
  • a good understanding of the research process and the needs of researchers;
  • an excellent command of English (C1). Dutch language skills (B2) are considered as an advantage, or you are willing to develop these during your first year.
