Introduction

Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) and the Erasmus Commodity & Trade Centre (ECTC) at Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) are seeking an enthusiastic post-doctoral researcher to join our ambitious research project, focused on hydrogen systems.

As our postdoc researcher, you collaborate with various knowledge partners as well as public and private stakeholders. Your aim is to publish the findings in esteemed academic journals within the fields of operations research and supply chain management.

This project is carried out during your two-year postdoc position at the department of Supply Chain Management at RSM and it is managed under joint supervision by Dr Wouter Jacobs of the ECTC and Prof. Albert Veenstra of the department of Technology and Operations Management at RSM.

Job description

As our postdoc researcher, your tasks include the following:

  1. Conduct a theoretical review on the evolutionary pathways of energy commodity markets and carry out empirical analyses of trade routes of hydrogen carriers into the Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp port industrial complex;
  2. Coordinate and report research progress and results with other researchers and work packages among the consortium partners;
  3. Organise two strategic workshops with stakeholders from government, industry and consortium partners; and
  4. Prepare academic publications.

About Hy-SUCCESS

The Hy-SUCCESS consortium represents a collaboration of ten universities, two research institutes, four universities of applied sciences, one research and technology organisation, and three industry partners. The Hy-SUCCESS consortium follows a transdisciplinary approach that involves a collaboration between a wide range of disciplines, including economics, business, management, psychology, law, philosophy, engineering, and natural sciences, as well as practitioners.

A wide range of diverse and complementary expertise of the consortium members enables us to get a comprehensive view on the non-technological aspects of hydrogen and green hydrogen. A clear view of this is critical for us to understand the potential role of hydrogen in a sustainable energy system.

Aligned with the GroenvermogenNL programme, this project examines the multifaceted role of hydrogen in energy and energy raw materials systems. It takes into consideration the policies, technologies, infrastructure, market dynamics and the role of international competition and geopolitics. Furthermore, GroenvermogenNL aims to understand which factors influence support for hydrogen and green hydrogen, among industry as well as consumers.

The aim of the research project is to identify constraints and enablers in the development of international trade and supply in order to define strategic implications and policy interventions in support of the value proposition to develop the Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp port-industrial region into a global pricing centre. This activity strongly benefits from the close dialogue between industry, academic partners and government actors, and is facilitated by EUR at both RSM and the Erasmus Commodity & Trade Centre.
