Camila studied Sociology at Alberto Hurtado, writing her thesis as part of a research project funded by the National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research of Chile (CONICYT). After this five-year bachelor programme, she worked as a research assistant in several research projects financed by national funds of scientific and technological development (CONICYT), with multidisciplinary teams from different universities in Chile. In these research projects, she mainly studied issues that addressed social stratification and inequality, cultural participation and consumption, and urbanisation and the production of public spaces. She also carried out research projects about cultural consumption and children’s programming for the Municipal Theatre of Santiago.

In 2016, Camila received a CONICYT Scholarship to study in the Research Master 'Sociology of Culture, Media and the Arts' (MSc) programme at Erasmus University Rotterdam. Her thesis analysed cross-national cultural consumption and epistemological issues in the sociology of culture. During her Research Master, Camila did a research internship at the Netherlands Centre of Expertise for Cultural Education and Amateur Arts (Landelijk Kennisinstituut Cultuureducatie en Amateurkunst, LKCA), carrying out the research project: "Mapping arts education research in Latin America and the Caribbean", with the supervision of Dr. Teunis IJdens. This research project is part of the international comparative project Monitoring National Arts Education Systems (MONAES), conducted by LKCA in collaboration with the UNESCO Chair Arts and Culture in Education at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg (Germany). The collaboration with this project has led to three publications to date, in two handbooks of arts education.
