Back to overview

In August 2016, Stefan Lipman started working at the Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management as a PhD candidate at the department of Health Economics. He will be working  on a PhD project called: Prospect theory in the health domain: An investigation into the formation and influence of reference points. This project is supervised by Arthur Attema and Werner Brouwer.

Stefan obtained both his BA and MSc degree at Utrecht University, where he studied Social Psychology and finished the Research Master: Social and Health Psychology. As a student he worked on many diverse research projects (e.g. financial risk taking, nudging, veterinary public health), a manifestation of his broad interest and multidisciplinary approach to science. As such, his research interests are broad; best summarized as ‘utilizing both psychological and economic insights to address societal problems, such as public health, (effective) decision making, and self-regulation.

At ESHPM Stefan will be working on a research project focused on utilizing behavioural economics in the health domain, in order to better understand reference-dependent decision making with regards to quantity and quality of life. Ultimately, these insights could be used to better inform health care decision makers, by incorporating the premises of prospect theory.
