Are you coming to Rotterdam for an exchange and looking for a comfortable, well-equipped place to live? Erasmus University Rotterdam has launched a pilot housing project at a currently renovated apartment complex on Tamboerstraat in the neighbourhood Crooswijk, available exclusively for semester exchange students.
These stylish short-stay apartments are fully furnished and located in a lively yet peaceful neighbourhood. While you’ll enjoy a quiet living environment, the vibrant city centre of Rotterdam is just minutes away.
The Erasmus University campus is easily accessible by public transport – just a 20-minute tram ride.
Starting 1 September 2025, 25 flatshare apartments will become available. In these apartments, you’ll have your own private bedroom, while sharing the kitchen and bathroom with two other international exchange students, offering both privacy and a sense of community.
More apartments will follow from October onwards, but please note that these are still under construction and not yet available for booking.
With excellent public transport connections and plenty of shops, cafés and green spaces nearby, Tamboerstraat offers a practical and relaxed home base for your time abroad.
Please note: the rental periods are fixed and cannot be shortened or extended!
When?
You can register your interest starting now. The registration form is available online and can be filled in immediately. We recommend signing up as soon as possible, as the number of rooms is limited and interest is expected to be high.
The first list of approved students who have shown interest before 10:00 AM on 15 August will be sent to the landlord and will be informed about this. Students who register after this date and time will only be considered if there are still rooms available.
How?
To register, simply fill in the online form to indicate your interest in booking a room at Tamboerstraat. After submitting the form, we will contact selected students by email on 15 August with further instructions on how to complete the booking.
Please note:
- Registration does not guarantee a room.
- Rooms will be offered on a first come, first served basis.
- The form is intended for semester exchange students only, as the maximum rental period is 6 months.
Step 1: Show interest
- Fill in the interest form on our website. Only students who meet the allocation criteria will be selected.
- If you are not selected, you will not receive an email.
Step 2: Booking
After you have filled out the form and have been selected we will send you an email that we have shared your contact details with HouseHunting. They will reach out to you with more details about the booking process. Keep you ID nearby because they will need a copy of this.
Step 3: Signing the contract
You will receive, within 2 working days, a rental agreement and several attachments by email. You will be requested to sign the rental agreement, within 2 days!, digitally. After you have signed the rental agreement, the owner of the house will sign the agreement and then the rental is finalized.
Step 4: Payment
To secure a room, you need to pay directly at HouseHunting. You have to pay an amount that consists of the following:
- The rent for the first month;
- The deposit, as a warranty for the owner of € 1000,-. The deposit will be returned at the end of the rental agreement if the room is clean and undamaged;
- Mandatory amenity package of € 300,- which includes:
- Final cleaning: a cleaning at the end of the rental period;
- Complete kitchen package: This package contains all essential kitchen utensils including crockery, cutlery, plates etc.
- Complete linen package: This package contains all necessary bedding, including a pillow, duvet cover, fitted sheet and pillowcase.
Rates
All-inclusive prices range between €850 and €1,050 per month, depending on the apartment and size of the room.
This price includes:
- Furniture
- Utilities (gas, water, electricity)
- Internet
- Local taxes and service costs
Registration with the municipality (gemeente) is mandatory for rental contracts longer than 4 months.
Rental period
- 1 September 2025 – 31 December 2025 /31 Januari 2026*
- 1 October 2025 – 31 January 2026*
* Please note: the exact end date may vary by a few days, but this will be clearly confirmed when signing the tenancy agreement.
Each apartment is fully furnished and shared with one or two other students. You will have your own private bedroom, while the living room, kitchen, and bathroom are shared.
Kitchen
The kitchen is fully equipped with:
- Refrigerator
- Oven
- Induction cooktop
- Dishwasher
- Basic kitchenware (plates, glasses, cutlery, pans, etc.)
Bathroom
The shared bathroom includes:
- Walk-in shower
- Toilet
- Sink
Laundry
Each apartment also has a washing machine and dryer for shared use.
Allocation criteria
The rooms will be booked based on first come, first serve. Before applying take note that you have to meet the following criteria:
- You are going to start your first year and study at EUR;
- You don't have the Dutch nationality (a dual-citizenship including the Dutch nationality means not eligible);
- You are new to the Netherlands, you have not completed your prior education in the Netherlands, and you currently live abroad;
- You are (conditionally) accepted to your study/ exchange programme;
- You are not older than 30 years.*
- You are a fall semester exchange student.
*If a student is 30 years old at the start of the academic year, they remain eligible. However, if they turn 31 before the academic year begins, they are not eligible.
- If you accept this offer but are unable to come to Rotterdam due to a valid reason (e.g., not meeting the registration criteria), your booking may be cancelled up to four weeks before the start of your tenancy.
→ In that case, your payment will be refunded. - Cancellations within four weeks of the start of the tenancy will be assessed case by case by HouseHunting.
→ Please note that you may not receive a full refund.
→ Cancellation is not possible if you simply find another room on your own. - Once you have completed your booking and your tenancy agreement has started, early termination is no longer possible,
→ unless you officially withdraw from your studies at Erasmus University Rotterdam,
→ and only after receiving approval from EUR. - All cancellation and termination requests must be submitted via email to: rotterdam@househunting.nl
