The Erasmus Research Institute of Management (ERIM) was founded in 1998 by two schools at Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR): Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) and Erasmus School of Economics (ESE).

In 1999, ERIM was officially accredited by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW), and re-accredited in 2003 and 2011. Following changes in national policy, research institutes no longer require separate accreditation as of 2014.

Today, ERIM functions as an interfaculty research platform with two key objectives: to support research excellence in management and economics, and to develop future academic talent through its graduate school, which hosts full-time and part-time PhD programmes in Management and Economics.

Mission, goals, and domain

ERIM’s mission is to cultivate an academic culture that promotes excellence and integrity in scientific research within the fields of management and economics.

The goals of ERIM are:

  • To promote high-quality research that is recognised by the global academic community in the broader domain of management.
  • To nurture the next generation of management scholars and research-focused practitioners by offering top-tier PhD education through its internationally competitive programmes.
  • To support open and responsible scientific practices, producing high-quality research and impactful outcomes both within and outside the academic community.
