Stepbrother, I am stuck! It is said that the majority of the internet is made up of pornographic material. Often hidden in plain sight, this content has a big influence on sexual expectations and stereotypes within society. What is desirable? Wat is (ab)normal? And what is the role of the director in all of this?

During this evening on porn we will look at the outcomes of some of the research on these topics by our very own SPICE Hub. We will watch porn live with commentary by a porn researcher, and go into discussion with a porn producer about their craft and the role of the (fe-)male gaze.
- Samira van Bohemen, lead of the PORN-types project, will tell us about the research at the SPICE Hub and the importance of researching porn in an academic setting.
- Michael Giffin will present us the findings of the ‘Sexperiment’ that was conducted at the Lowlands festival, demonstrating how sexual stereotypes manifest in our bodies.
- Jennifer Lyon Bell, arthouse adult cinema director & founder of Blue Artichoke Films, will talk to us about creating feminist erotic content and the way it interacts with the dominant narrative within porn.
The SPICE Hub is a collaborative research hub within Erasmus University that investigates how Sexuality, Pleasure, Identity, Culture, and Emotion shape our everyday lives, our relationships, and our societies.
